australia and new zealand intend to implement an operational satellite d augmentation system (sbas). this will be called the southern positioning augmentation network (southpan). the southpan will augment standard positioning capability provided by gps and galileo across all of australia and new zealand, with expected user applications in agriculture, construction, resources, utilities and other industries; with decimetre accuracy. it will also support aviation and road transport sectors, which have requirements for high-integrity positioning data with sub-metre level accuracy. geoscience australia is currently in the process of procuring a southpan contractor to deliver the ground segment of the southpan.
