The purpose of this work is to provide suitably skilled and experienced workers, with the necessary tools and equipment, to undertake civil engineering maintenance work.

Scope of the works is for highways maintenance/enhancement schemes including road patching, ironworks, paving work, etc. across the City. This is carried out on an as and when needed basis, to supplement the Council’s Highways Operations and Development workforce and may also be used across the Council.

Work within Highways can be in peaks and troughs, this work allows the flexibility to provide cover when there is a high work demand.

The work allows Highways the flexibility to meet its obligations under the various funding streams, in order to complete road and pavement schemes. The various funding sources can include European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the integrated transport block, the highways maintenance capital investment programme and other external grant funds.
