The NRC is leading an electric utilities consortium and testing Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) operations outside of UAS test range is of highest interest. NRC is consequently proposing a pilot project to perform BVLOS testing on a high voltage transmission line owned by consortium members, outside of a test range, in class G airspace. A few locations around Winnipeg area were identified. The ive is to validate the added value of BVLOS UAS inspections in a pilot project, as a first step to eventually achieve the capability to adopt this approach in a recurrent commercial environment
