thunder lake provincial park is located approximately 150km nw of edmonton, alberta. this provincial park is on the shores of thunder lake and is made up of three day use areas that encompass a beach area, boat launch and picnic shelter, one campground with 66 electrified and 61 unserviced camping sites, and two reservable group camping areas. the park also includes a store, concession building, shower building, toilet buildings, playground, a potable water and wastewater system, dump station and other various minor infrastructure. the park is currently being operated under a facility operator agreement. the park’s facilities were constructed in the 1980s and are in poor and failing condition. parks is considering a refurbishment of the facilities within the provincial park and is seeking assessment and analysis services to review options for modernization of the current amenities. inclusivity, accessibility and cpted (crime prevention through environmental design) are prioritized mandates and should be a fundamental target for all options. emphasis on reducing operational and maintenance expenses and burden is also of significance. parks is aiming for a systematic approach to determine long-term options for the area and its infrastructure by assessing and prioritizing the work required to help facilitate management of this area to enhance visitor experience and create sustainable infrastructure for generations to come. the goal of the project is to identify, assess, prioritize and plan for safe, low maintenance, functionally effective, increased accessibility and aesthetically pleasing infrastructure for current and future needs of staff and patrons to the park.
